Victor Hale arrived at the police station with a lawyer.
He wore the same calm expression Daniel remembered from childhood.
Hale had been in their home when Daniel was fifteen and his parents were divorcing.
He taught Margaret how to “avoid reinforcing emotional escalation.”
Daniel remembered crying once after his father left.
Margaret told him:
“We can talk when your nervous system is regulated.”
He had hated the phrase.
Now he heard Lily screaming behind a pantry door in his imagination.
Same philosophy.
Hale insisted he had never authorized abuse.
His written contract supported that partially.
He was hired by Margaret, not Daniel.
Task:
Assess household behavioral consistency in anticipation of Halston Trust developmental review.
Already problematic.
He had never obtained Daniel’s consent to assess Lily.
He had observed Lily twice from a distance at Margaret’s house.
No clinical evaluation.

H:

That looked good for Hale.
Then Margaret replied:

Fear is already part of her pattern.
Hale:
H:
If she is fearful, this should be assessed independently. I would suspend auditory interventions.
Margaret:
M:
We do not have six weeks to suspend.
Hale did not respond for a day.
Then:
H:
I cannot endorse anything that could be interpreted as aversive punishment.
Did he withdraw?
No.
He continued accepting videos and invoicing.
He should have stopped.
Professional misconduct.
That exposure would later become part of the civil case.
Not necessarily criminal conspiracy.
Then pantry.
VANESSA:
She keeps leaving timeout.
MARGARET:
Use contained space.
HALE:
A child-safe gated area with visual access can work for brief calming if the child is not isolated and this is part of a validated plan.
Vanessa used dark pantry.

Briefly.
H:

He warned.

Margaret.

It stated:
Observed repeated severe dysregulation across caregivers and settings.
He had not observed across settings.

Margaret became angry.

Daniel told him:

He disliked.
He stayed silent.

To Margaret’s company.
She called herself unpaid.
But she would collect rent.
