Chapter 01 - THE MORNING I CAUGHT MY HUSBAND WITH HER, I SHOWED HIM THE TEXT HE THOUGHT I’D NEVER SEE

## chapter 01 - The Woman Standing in My Living Room

At 7:12 on a Saturday morning, Anna Mitchell walked barefoot into her living room wearing the pale blue robe her husband had bought her for Christmas.

She had expected to find David making coffee.

Instead, she found another woman.

Blonde.

Beautiful.

Perfectly dressed in a fitted black dress and gold bracelet, standing beside the sofa as if she belonged there.

David stood behind her in a white T-shirt, holding his phone.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Anna stared at the woman.

Then at her husband.

"What is she doing in my house?"

David's face went pale.

"Anna—"

"No."

Anna raised one hand.

"Don't start with my name."

The blonde woman gave a small nervous smile.

"I'm Caroline."

Anna looked at her.

"I know who you are."

That erased the smile.

David stepped forward.

"Can we talk privately?"

Anna laughed once.

"You invited her into our living room, and now you want privacy?"

Caroline folded her arms.

"I think there's been a misunderstanding."

Anna turned toward her.

"No, Caroline."

She reached into the pocket of her robe.

"I think the misunderstanding was yours."

Anna pulled out her phone.

David stopped moving.

She opened the message thread and held the screen toward them.

At the top was Caroline's name.

Below it were messages that had arrived on David's old tablet the night before.

YOU HAVE TO TELL HER.

I'M NOT WAITING ANOTHER MONTH.

YOU SAID AFTER THE ANNIVERSARY SHE'D BE OUT OF THE HOUSE.

Anna looked at David.

"Thirty-two days."

His eyes shifted.

"That's how long you've apparently been planning to throw me out of my own home."

Caroline turned sharply toward him.

"You said she knew."

Anna smiled without humor.

"Apparently we both married the same liar."

David rubbed his face.

"Anna, please."

But Anna wasn't finished.

She scrolled farther down.

One final message appeared.

A message David had sent Caroline at 2:13 a.m.

ONCE ANNA SIGNS THE REFINANCE PAPERS, EVERYTHING WILL BE OURS.

The room became silent.

Anna stared at the man she had loved for fourteen years.

"There's only one problem, David."

He looked at her.

Anna lowered the phone.

May you like

"I already know what you're really trying to refinance."

And for the first time that morning, David looked afraid.
