The Phone in the Drawer

Chapter 19 - The Phone in the Drawer
Years passed.
Anna eventually replaced the phone that held the messages exposing David.
She almost deleted everything.
Instead, she kept screenshots in a private folder.
Not because she wanted to relive the betrayal.
Because they reminded her of the moment her life changed.
Then one day, a young woman at The Evelyn came to her office.
Her name was Grace.
She was thirty-one.
Married.
Terrified.
Her husband wanted her to sign business documents she didn't understand.
"He says if I trusted him, I wouldn't need a lawyer."
Anna felt the past move through her.
She didn't tell Grace what to do.
She gave her Rachel's number.
"Read everything before you sign."
Grace looked embarrassed.
"Maybe I'm overreacting."
Anna smiled gently.
"Then reading the documents will prove that."
"And if I'm not?"
"Then you'll be glad you read them."
Weeks later, Grace discovered hidden debts.
She protected her savings before everything collapsed.
She returned to thank Anna.
"How did you know?"
Anna looked toward the drawer where the old phone was kept.
"I learned late."
She smiled.
"But late isn't the same as never."
That evening, Anna finally deleted the screenshots.
She didn't need them anymore.
