The Wrong Villain

Chapter 06 - The Wrong Villain
Claire wanted to hate Victoria.
Part of her still did.
But the truth was becoming more complicated.
Victoria admitted she had separated Claire and Nathan.
She had forged letters.
She had hidden the pregnancy.
She had ordered company attorneys to pressure Claire.
But she claimed she had done it because she believed Claire was using Nathan to investigate Robert’s death.
“That doesn’t make any sense,” Claire said.
“It did to me.”
Victoria explained that Charles had convinced her Robert was blackmailing Hale International.
After Robert died, Charles claimed Claire possessed documents that could destroy the family.
Then Claire became pregnant.
Charles warned Victoria that Claire would use the children to get close to Nathan.
“And you believed him,” Nathan said.
Victoria looked ashamed.
“Yes.”
Claire shook her head.
“You could have asked me.”
“I was afraid.”
“You were powerful.”
“No,” Victoria said quietly. “I was rich. I mistook that for the same thing.”
Charles laughed.
“You expect everyone to believe this?”
Madeline’s father had remained silent until then.
Now Thomas Prescott stood.
“I believe her.”
Everyone turned.
Charles stared at him.
Thomas reached inside his jacket.
“I’ve been waiting nineteen years to hear Victoria admit that.”
Madeline looked at her father.
“What are you talking about?”
May you like
Thomas placed a small flash drive on the table.
“Because Robert Bennett wasn’t the first person who discovered what Charles was doing.”
