The Policy

Chapter 07 - The Policy
Jonathan refused to believe William could have caused Rebecca's death.
Daniel was not so certain.
"The man threatened her."
"That doesn't mean he killed her."
"He had ten million reasons."
"Rebecca died from a heart condition."
"Did she?"
Jonathan stared at him.
"Be careful."
"I'm asking a question."
"My daughter was sick."
"I know."
Daniel softened.
"But she also told us someone was watching her."
Jonathan called Rebecca's cardiologist.
Dr. Allison Reed agreed to meet privately.
She confirmed Rebecca's diagnosis.
But then she revealed something troubling.
Two weeks before Rebecca's final collapse, someone had accessed her medical records without authorization.
"Who?"
"We don't know."
"Could her condition have been made worse intentionally?"
Dr. Reed hesitated.
"There are medications that could interfere with her treatment."
Jonathan felt his stomach turn.
"Was anything found?"
"No toxicology screening was requested."
Daniel looked at him.
Rebecca had been cremated?
No.
The coffin had been closed, but Rebecca had been buried.
Jonathan immediately contacted authorities.
He hated himself for what he was about to request.
An investigation.
Possibly an exhumation.
His daughter had already suffered enough.
But as Daniel said quietly beside him:
"If someone did this, Rebecca deserves the truth."
Jonathan looked out the hospital window.
"No."
Daniel frowned.
May you like
Jonathan continued.
"Her children deserve it."
