Frank cleaned his house.
Really cleaned it.
He painted the living room.
Fixed the faucet.
Threw away years of junk.
Then he framed one photograph.
Emily at graduation.
The television had shown him the moment he lost.
The photograph reminded him of what remained.
When Emily visited during winter break, she noticed it.
“You used the worst picture.”
Frank frowned.
“You look great.”
“My eyes are half closed.”
“You're still my kid.”
Emily laughed.
Then she handed him another frame.
Inside was the scholarship dinner photograph.
Frank.
Emily.
Laura.
Together.
Frank stared at it.
Emily said, “Use this one too.”
He placed it beside the first.
Two pictures.
