The Mistake of Moving Too Fast

Chapter 13 - The Mistake of Moving Too Fast
The kiss changed everything.
For three days Claire avoided discussing it.
Adrian gave her space.
Then Noah noticed.
“Why are you acting weird?”
“We’re not.”
“You are.”
Eli looked between them.
“Did you have a fight?”
“No.”
Noah smiled.
“Oh.”
Claire immediately knew that expression.
“Noah.”
“You kissed.”
Adrian nearly choked on his coffee.
Claire stared at her son.
“How could you possibly know that?”
“You’re acting like people in movies after they kiss.”
Eli grinned.
Claire covered her face.
That night she and Adrian talked honestly.
“I don’t want them thinking we’re automatically becoming a family because you’re their father.”
“Neither do I.”
“And I don’t want us recreating something from nine years ago because we’re nostalgic.”
Adrian nodded.
“Then we don’t.”
Claire looked surprised.
“We go slowly.”
“What does slowly mean?”
“Dinner.”
“We already have dinner.”
“Then dinner where neither child throws peas at me.”
Claire laughed.
They began dating quietly.
No promises.
No dramatic declarations.
The twins were delighted.
But Claire still carried fear.
Then Adrian received an offer to become CEO of the company’s London division.
