Adrian asked for legal recognition of paternity.
Claire agreed.
The hearing was straightforward.
The DNA evidence was clear.
Still, sitting in court made Claire anxious.
She had spent years making every decision alone.
Now the law would formally recognize someone else as a parent.
The judge asked whether both parties consented.
Claire looked at Adrian.
“Yes.”
The order was signed.
Adrian Cole became Noah and Eli’s legal father.
Outside the courtroom, Eli asked, “Were you not our dad yesterday?”
Adrian laughed.
“I was.”
“Then what changed?”
Noah answered.
“Paperwork.”
Eli frowned.
“Adults are weird.”
Claire agreed.
Adrian later requested something else.
He wanted the twins to choose whether to use Bennett, Cole, or both names.
He did not demand they take his surname.
Noah chose Bennett-Cole.
Eli chose Bennett.
Adrian accepted both without hesitation.
Claire noticed.
That mattered.
