The article was brutal.

Claire wanted to throw her phone across the room.
The story implied she had hidden the twins to force Adrian into a financial settlement.
Noah saw the headline at school.
By lunchtime, children were asking whether his father was rich.
Eli came home crying.
Adrian arrived twenty minutes later.
“I’m handling it.”
Claire turned on him.
“No, you’re not.”
He stopped.
“This is exactly what Caroline warned about.”
“Don’t defend her.”
“I’m not. I’m telling you this is your world.”
The words landed badly.
Adrian went quiet.
Claire immediately regretted them.
But he nodded.
“You’re right.”
She looked at him.
“I should have protected them better.”
“No,” Claire said. “Your father’s lie created this. The people exploiting it now are responsible for their choices.”
Adrian’s attorney recommended a public statement.
Claire refused to let the boys become props.
So Adrian stood alone before reporters.
“My sons were hidden from me, not by their mother, but through deliberate deception within my own family.”
The room went silent.
He continued.
“Claire Bennett raised them without asking me for money, publicity, or anything else. Any suggestion otherwise is false.”
Then he walked away.
No dramatic questions.
No performance.
That night Noah watched the clip.
“He called us his sons.”
