Chapter 13 - Victor’s Final Claim
Victor accepted a plea deal on several federal charges.
But before sentencing, he requested a meeting with Jax.
Jax nearly refused.
Then he went.
Victor looked older behind glass.
“You think Caleb was Luke’s father.”
“He was.”
Victor smiled.
“You sure?”
Jax’s stomach tightened.
Victor claimed Emily had been involved with another man.
He offered no proof.
Only doubt.
Jax understood the game.
Victor had controlled people for years by making them distrust one another.
This was the same trick.
Jax stood.
Victor frowned.
“You don’t want the truth?”
Jax looked at him.
“No. I want evidence.”
Victor said nothing.
Jax continued.
“That’s the difference between you and me now.”
He left.
Later, Emily admitted she and Caleb had been together briefly after she disappeared.
Luke was Caleb’s son.
There was no hidden scandal.
No extra betrayal.
Just a frightened woman and a frightened man trying badly to survive.
Jax told Luke.
The boy shrugged.
“I already knew.”
“How?”
“I have his eyebrows.”
Jax laughed.
