The Garage

Chapter 14 - The Garage
Jax brought Luke to his motorcycle garage.
The boy was fascinated.
He asked a thousand questions.
Jax answered nine hundred.
By sunset, Luke had grease on his hands and a broken carburetor in pieces.
Emily arrived.
She looked horrified.
“He’s eight.”
“He’s learning.”
“He dismantled something.”
“It was already broken.”
Luke smiled.
“Mostly.”
Emily shook her head.
Jax saw something he had not seen in years.
She looked happy.
Not completely.
But enough.
They ate dinner together.
Nora joined.
Maria stopped by.
For one evening, no one discussed Victor.
No one discussed court.
No one discussed the past.
Luke fell asleep in a chair.
Jax carried him to Emily’s car.
Before closing the door, Luke whispered:
“My dad would’ve liked this place.”
Jax looked at the garage.
“I think he would.”
Luke touched his arm.
“Can we put his picture here?”
The next morning, Jax framed the old photograph.
He hung it above his workbench.
Not as evidence.
May you like
Not as a mystery.
As family.
