Chapter 16 - The Hearing
The legal hearing was not dramatic.
No shouting.
No surprise witnesses bursting through doors.
Just fluorescent lights, quiet voices, and documents placed carefully on a table.
But for Ryan, it was devastating.
Chloe testified about the proposed purchase.
Daniel presented the forged authorization.
Mercer Holdings provided the recorded conference.
Ryan’s own podcast interview contradicted his earlier written statements.
By the end of the day, the judge referred the property matter for further investigation and prohibited Ryan from making any claim against the villa pending resolution.
The divorce moved forward separately.
Outside the courthouse, reporters waited.
Ryan walked past them.
Elena did not.
She stopped.
A woman asked, “Do you have anything to say about your husband?”
Elena looked into the camera.
She could have destroyed him with one sentence.
Instead, she said, “This is not a story about catching a husband in a swimming pool.”
The reporters leaned closer.
“It is a story about what happens when someone mistakes trust for permission.”
Then Elena walked away.
The clip spread everywhere.
