Daniel advised Elena to freeze any joint financial transfers until they understood the full situation.
That decision uncovered another problem.
Ryan had moved $180,000 from their shared investment account over eighteen months.
The money went to a company registered in Nevada.
Hart Development West.
Elena had never heard of it.
Ryan claimed it was a future business venture.
But the company had no employees.
No office.
No projects.
Only withdrawals.
Then Daniel found a payment to Chloe’s apartment building.
Elena looked at Chloe.
Chloe shook her head.
“He paid six months of my rent. I thought it was because we were planning a future.”
Elena almost felt sorry for her.
Almost.
Ryan had built different stories for different women.
To Elena, he was the overworked husband.
To Chloe, he was the trapped husband.
To investors, he was the man who could deliver a luxury property at a discount.
And to himself?
Apparently, Ryan was the smartest person in every room.
Until now.
That night, Elena confronted him.
“How much money is left?”
Ryan sat on the edge of the guest bed.
“I can fix this.”
“That wasn’t my question.”
He looked up.
“I made some bad investments.”
“How much?”
His eyes filled with something close to panic.
Elena repeated the question.
Ryan finally whispered the number.
Almost all of it was gone.
And suddenly Elena understood why he had needed the villa to sell quickly.
