Sophie Visits Victoria

Chapter 14 - Sophie Visits Victoria

Sophie arrived at the Whitmore estate alone.

Victoria received her in the library.

“You look like your grandfather,” Victoria said.

Sophie remained standing.

“You watched him lose everything.”

Victoria did not argue.

“I was afraid of Henry.”

“So was everyone.”

“Yes.”

“But you had money, lawyers, and a family name. Grandpa had a sick wife and a child.”

Victoria looked down.

Sophie placed Thomas’s old notebook on the table.

Inside were repair sketches for the hotel kitchen.

“He wrote down every improvement he wanted to make. Even after your family removed his name.”

Victoria turned the pages.

Her hands trembled.

“What do you want from me?”

“The truth about my grandmother.”

Victoria looked up.

Sophie knew there was more.

The bookkeeping threat Henry used against Thomas had required detailed knowledge.

Victoria admitted she had found the original records and given them to Henry.

“I thought it would frighten Thomas into accepting the settlement.”

“You helped threaten my grandmother.”

“Yes.”

Sophie’s eyes filled, but her voice remained steady.

“Then you will say that publicly.”

Victoria nodded.

“And you will create a fund in her name for women facing medical debt.”

Victoria gave a sad smile.

“You negotiate like your grandfather.”

“No.”

Sophie leaned closer.

“I negotiate like my mother.”

At the next press conference, Victoria confessed her role without excuses.

She announced the Evelyn Monroe Medical Relief Fund using her personal inheritance, not company money.

Some people called it redemption.

Abigail did not.

“Redemption is a life, not a press conference,” she told Sophie.

Still, it was a beginning.
