Richard wanted to restore Ruth’s reputation with money.
Again, she refused.
But this time she made a request.
The Whitmore Foundation would create an independent fund for domestic workers, caregivers, and low-wage employees falsely accused or financially exploited by powerful employers.
The fund would provide legal assistance.
Richard agreed immediately.
Ruth stopped him.
“There is one condition.”
“What?”
“My name does not go on the building.”
Richard looked surprised.
Ruth smiled.
“I spent half my life learning what happens when rich families care more about names than people.”
The program was approved unanimously.
Emily volunteered to help design it.
Daniel offered legal support through his firm.
Even Caroline, slowly rebuilding her relationship with Ruth, agreed to serve as a community representative.
For the first time, Ruth saw something good growing from the worst chapter of her life.
Then Vanessa called her.
“I need to see you,” she said.
