The Prenup

Chapter 05 - The Prenup
Daniel and Emily had signed a prenuptial agreement two weeks before the ceremony.
Vanessa had insisted on it.
She claimed she was protecting Emily.
But Ruth had obtained a copy through a retired attorney who had once worked for Margaret Whitmore.
Hidden inside an attached business agreement was a clause transferring voting authority over part of Daniel’s trust if his marriage ended under certain conditions.
The beneficiary was not Emily.
It was a holding company.
Vanessa controlled it.
Emily went pale.
“You told me that company belonged to the Whitmore estate.”
Vanessa’s eyes filled with anger.
“I did everything for you.”
“No,” Emily said. “You did everything through me.”
Daniel looked at his father.
Richard whispered, “I never read the attachment.”
Ruth almost laughed.
“That has always been this family’s problem. You sign things because the person handing you the pen is wearing expensive clothes.”
Vanessa grabbed her purse.
“I’m done with this circus.”
As she reached the library door, Emily spoke.
“Did you know Grandma Patricia framed Ruth?”
May you like
Vanessa stopped.
For the first time, she looked afraid.
