The Wife He Called His Investor
Chapter 03 - The Wife He Called His Investor
Evan insisted Madison had misunderstood him.
Madison pulled on a robe and demanded the truth.
Evan finally admitted he had told her that he and Claire were separated.
He described Claire as a distant business partner who cared more about hotels than marriage.
Madison’s face went pale.
“You said she lived in France.”
Claire almost laughed.
She had spent twenty-six days in France.
Evan had turned one business trip into an entire fictional separation.
Claire asked Madison to leave.
Madison looked embarrassed, but Claire did not blame her—not yet.
Before walking away, Madison stopped beside Claire.
“He called you his investor.”
Claire watched Evan flinch.
That word hurt more than mistress.
Claire had mortgaged the cottage her mother left her to finance their first property. She had designed their brand, managed payroll during years when Evan took no salary, and negotiated every major contract.
Yet in the story he told his girlfriend, Claire was merely the woman who supplied money.
After Madison left, Evan tried to touch Claire’s arm.
She stepped back.
“Do not touch me.”
“Claire, I made a mistake.”
“No. A mistake is forgetting an anniversary.”

She pointed to the two rings.
“This required planning.”
