Claire called her attorney before sunrise.
Rebecca Sloan arrived at seven with a laptop and a face that revealed nothing.
She studied the transfer papers.
“These signatures are forged.”
Claire knew that already, but hearing the word spoken aloud made the betrayal larger.
Evan had not only cheated.
He had tried to remove her from the company she built.
Rebecca reviewed the dates.
Two documents had already been submitted to a lender.
If approved, Evan could borrow millions against the hotels.
Claire called the bank and froze every pending transaction.
Then she checked the security cameras.
Several weeks of footage were missing.
Rosa remembered seeing a man in the office with Evan.
His name was Gregory Hale, the company’s chief financial officer.
Claire had trusted Gregory for eight years.
She called him.
He did not answer.
Ten minutes later, Claire received an email from him.
