Lily began calling Rebecca “Aunt Rebecca.”
No one planned it.
It simply happened.
Samuel called Claire “C.”
Also unplanned.
Their strange family found its own language.
At school, Lily was asked to draw her family.
She drew Claire.
Samuel.
Rebecca.
And Andrew in the sky.
The teacher seemed confused.
Lily was not.
“That’s my family.”
When Claire saw the picture, she smiled.
Families did not always fit inside neat boxes.
Sometimes they were built from marriages.
Sometimes blood.
