Federal agents arranged the meeting.
Claire wore the necklace.
Charles chose an abandoned Morgan nursing facility.
Rebecca wanted to come.
Claire refused.
“You spent six years hiding from him.”
“And I’m done.”
Their eyes met.
Claire finally nodded.
They went together.
Charles waited in the empty lobby.
He looked at Rebecca.
“You should be dead.”
Rebecca answered calmly.
“But I’m not.”
Charles laughed.
“You think Andrew was a hero?”
“No.”
That surprised him.
Rebecca continued.
“He was a man who made mistakes and tried to fix them.”
Charles looked at Claire.
“He lied to you.”
“I know.”
“And you’re defending him?”
“No.”
Claire removed the necklace.
“I’m protecting our children.”
Charles demanded the data.
Claire handed him the necklace.
He smashed it.
Nothing was inside.
Claire smiled.
“The federal government already has copies.”
Charles stared at her.
Then agents entered.
He ran.
He did not get far.
As officers handcuffed him, Charles looked at Claire.
“You destroyed this family.”
Claire shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at Rebecca and Samuel.
“You did.”

Then she added:
“We’re rebuilding it.”
