Years passed.
Samuel graduated from high school.
Rebecca cried before the ceremony even started.
Claire brought flowers.
Lily, now ten, screamed louder than everyone when Samuel’s name was called.
Afterward, Samuel gave Claire an envelope.
Inside was a copy of his college application essay.

Claire read it.
She cried.
Rebecca cried.
Lily complained that everyone cried too much.
Samuel had been accepted into college.
He planned to study law.
“Why law?” Claire asked.
He smiled.
“Because paperwork ruined half my childhood.”
