Melissa obtained Andrew’s phone records.
One call mattered.
The night before Andrew died, he spoke to Charles for seventeen minutes.
Then Andrew called Ethan Blake’s father at Bellamy Jewelers.
That explained the necklace.
But there was another call.
Federal Agent Marcus Reed.
Claire contacted him.
Reed agreed to meet.
Andrew had been cooperating secretly for six months.
He had evidence against Charles.
Bank records.
Recorded conversations.
Names.
But the night before Andrew was supposed to deliver everything, he panicked.
He told Reed:
“If something happens, the diamonds point to the truth.”
Claire thought of the necklace.
The diamonds themselves might matter.
She returned to Bellamy Jewelers.
Ethan examined the necklace.
One diamond looked different.
Not fake.
Hollow.
Inside the pendant was a tiny data chip.
Andrew had hidden the evidence in plain sight.
Millions of dollars in fraudulent transactions.
Charles’s signature appeared everywhere.
Then Ethan opened one audio file.
Andrew’s voice.
Charles, if you touch Rebecca, Samuel, Claire or Lily, I will destroy you.
Charles answered:
You should have learned years ago that family makes everyone weak.
Claire stopped the recording.
She looked at Ethan.
“Call Agent Reed.”
For the first time, they had evidence.
Then Lily’s school called.
Someone had arrived claiming to be her uncle.
