Claire Morgan came home three hours earlier than planned and knew something was wrong before anyone spoke.
A blonde woman in a black dress stood in the middle of Claire's living room as if she belonged there. Behind her was Claire's husband, Daniel, pale and frozen, his phone still in his hand.
Claire stared at them both. “Who is she?”
The woman smiled with a confidence that made Claire’s stomach turn.
Daniel opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
Then the woman said, “Maybe you should ask your husband what he promised me.”
