The next morning Vanessa returned.
Claire almost shut the door in her face.
“I didn’t know about the forged documents,” Vanessa said.
Claire did not believe her.
Then Vanessa revealed something unexpected.
Daniel had told her Claire was already leaving him. He claimed the marriage existed only on paper and that the lake house sale was part of their divorce settlement.
Vanessa had believed she and Daniel would start a new life together.
But the night before, after Claire confronted them, Daniel had called Vanessa and ordered her to delete every message they had ever exchanged.
Instead, she saved them.
