For three days Daniel apologized.
On the fourth, his tone changed.
He warned Claire that exposing the forged documents could destroy him financially and professionally.
Then he reminded her that his collapse would affect Lily too.
Claire recognized the manipulation immediately.
“You’re asking me to protect our daughter by protecting the man who betrayed her.”
Daniel insisted he was trying to save the family.
Claire replied, “You were trying to save yourself.”
Later that afternoon, Claire received a call from an attorney.
Someone had already filed paperwork connected to the lake house.
