Daniel slept in the guest room.
Claire did not sleep at all.
At two in the morning, she entered his home office and opened the locked drawer he had once told her contained confidential work documents.
Inside was a contract.
Her name appeared on the last page.
So did what looked like her signature.
Claire’s hands began to shake.
The document authorized the transfer of the lake house into a private investment partnership.
Daniel was listed as managing partner.
Claire photographed every page.
Then she noticed a second folder.
On the cover were three words:
MORGAN FAMILY TRUST.

Claire had never created a family trust.
But according to the documents inside, someone had created one for her.
