Chapter 14 - The Hearing
The court hearing was brief but devastating.
The forged documents were suspended.
The lake house remained Claire’s.
Victor’s company became the subject of a larger financial investigation.
Daniel’s attorney argued that Daniel had been manipulated.
Claire’s attorney answered with the messages proving Daniel understood exactly what he was signing.
Outside the courthouse, reporters waited.
Claire refused to speak about the affair.
She spoke only about the fraud.
“This isn’t revenge,” she said. “It’s accountability.”
That sentence appeared in local newspapers the next morning.
