Daniel lost his position at work.
His professional license was placed under review.
Vanessa ended all contact with him.
His friends stopped answering calls.
For the first time in years, Daniel had nowhere to hide from the consequences of his choices.
He rented a small apartment across town.
Months later, Claire received a letter from him.
There were no excuses.
No requests.
No promises that he had changed.
He simply listed the things he had done and the people he had hurt.
At the end he wrote:
I kept asking you to believe I was still the man you married. I should have asked myself when I stopped being him.
Claire folded the letter and placed it in a drawer.
