Chapter 16 - Emily Draws the Line
Noah became consumed by the case.
He stopped sleeping and checked every lock three times. When Emily suggested counseling, he accused her of wanting him to forget.
She packed a small bag.
“I stood beside you while police put your hands behind your back,” she said. “I will not stand beside you while anger becomes your whole life.”
Noah’s face fell.
Emily did not leave the marriage.
She spent three nights with her sister and told Noah to decide whether he wanted justice or permanent war.
Samuel gave Noah no sympathy.
“Your grandmother loved me enough to demand better,” he said. “Emily is doing the same.”
Noah called a therapist the next morning.
