Chapter 04 - The Deal Mark Denied
At the police station, Karen refused to speak without an attorney.
Mark denied helping her forge anything. He admitted he had introduced her to Samuel but claimed he believed she was a licensed private nurse.
Noah did not trust him.
Detective Lena Ortiz found dozens of messages between Mark and Karen. Most concerned Samuel’s appointments, meals, and medications.
Then she found one message from Mark:
Once Dad signs, we can finally stop fighting about the property.
Mark said he meant a legitimate sale.
Karen had replied:
Leave the signatures to me.
Mark insisted he had never seen that response because Karen deleted it from the shared thread.
Noah wanted him arrested anyway.
Samuel surprised everyone.
“My son is selfish,” he said, “but he is not clever enough to plan this.”
Mark flinched.
It was a cruel sentence, but it may have saved him from immediate arrest.
