The Father Who Came Back for the House
Chapter 03 - The Father Who Came Back for the House
Mark had not spoken to Noah in seven years.
He arrived twenty minutes later wearing an expensive coat and the expression of a man who expected to take control. He told the police Karen had been hired because Noah was unreliable.
Noah stared at him.
“You hired her?”
Mark said Samuel needed professional care.
Samuel shook his head. “You hired her after I refused to sell.”
The house sat on six acres outside Boston. Developers had offered more than two million dollars for the property, but Samuel refused every offer because his late wife had planted the orchard herself.
Mark claimed the sale would pay for better care.
Emily asked why the transfer papers gave the property to Karen’s company instead of Samuel.
Mark had no answer.
Officer Cole asked everyone to remain while detectives arrived.
Karen suddenly grabbed her handbag and moved toward the back door.
Inside the bag, officers found Samuel’s checkbook, his passport, and a bottle of pills prescribed to someone else.

Mark looked genuinely shocked.
Karen looked at him and said, “Don’t pretend you didn’t know.”
