Emily remembered the argument that started everything.
Two nights earlier, Samuel had called her and left a voicemail. Most of it was muffled, but Karen’s voice could be heard in the background.
Emily played it for Detective Ortiz.
Karen said, “Sign it, or Noah will be charged with abandoning you.”
A man’s voice answered, “He’ll sign when he’s frightened enough.”
The voice was not Mark’s.
Samuel recognized it.
“Caleb Marsh,” he said.
Caleb was the attorney who had prepared the transfer documents. He had handled Samuel’s estate for almost twenty years and knew every detail of the family’s finances.
Detective Ortiz checked company records.
Caleb’s wife owned Haven Ridge Senior Services.
