Arthur recovered more strength than doctors expected.
He never walked independently again.
But he regained control of his speech.
His memory remained sharp.
And his home remained his.
One afternoon he called Rachel and Elena into the living room.
“I changed my estate plan.”
Rachel stiffened.
Arthur smiled.
“No surprises.”
He created a trust protecting the house from future manipulation.
Rachel became co-trustee with an independent attorney.
A portion of the estate would eventually support elder-abuse prevention services.
Arthur also created a small fund for families who could not afford temporary home-care assistance.
He named it after his late wife, Margaret.
Elena cried when he told her.
Daniel would still inherit something one day.
But only through a protected trust.
