The Signature on the Wrong Line
Chapter 04 - The Signature on the Wrong Line
Elena called Rachel.
At first Rachel did not believe her.
“My brother would never hurt Dad.”
“I’m not saying he has,” Elena replied carefully. “I’m saying something is wrong.”
Rachel booked the next flight home.
Before she arrived, Elena made another discovery.
Arthur’s mail had been redirected.
Bank statements no longer arrived at the house.
Insurance letters were missing.
And inside Daniel’s leather folder, left briefly on the dining table, Elena saw a document titled DURABLE POWER OF ATTORNEY.
Arthur’s signature was at the bottom.
Elena took a photograph.
When Rachel arrived, she compared it to her father’s signature on an old birthday card.
They looked similar.
But not identical.
Rachel confronted Arthur privately.
“Dad, did you sign power of attorney over to Daniel?”
Arthur stared at her.
“What power of attorney?”
Rachel’s stomach dropped.
She showed him the photograph.

Arthur’s hands began to shake.
“I never signed that.”
